Heidi A Sauder, PhD is a licensed clinical psychologist. She is certified in Gottman method couples therapy and is a sex therapist. Dr. Sauder is a telehealth provider for couples who are looking to manage conflict, communicate more effectively and resolve sexual health concerns. The first part of work with couples is assessment that takes place over four sessions to learn about the strengths and challenges the couple is experiencing. The couple meets together to tell the story of their relationship and discuss their interest in seeking therapy. Each member of the couple then meets individually to discuss how they see the relationship and discuss a bit of their background. The couple also completes the Relationship Checkup that comes from the Gottman Institute. This 480-item questionnaire covers many areas of relationship health. The fifth session is a feedback appointment with the couple to review the findings from the joint and individual sessions and the Relationship Checkup, and if appropriate, sets goals for therapy. Therapy takes place either in weekly 90-minute sessions or intensives, which are six hours for two or three days in a row.
Couples who seek therapy from Dr. Sauder come in many stages of relationship from dating to considering divorce. The most common reasons couples state for seeking therapy are difficulties managing conflict and low sexual desire.
