Emily Pluhar, Ph.D. received her doctorate in clinical psychology with a health emphasis from Albert Einstein College of Medicine at Yeshiva University in 2007 after completing a pre-doctoral DBT internship at Montefiore Medical Center in New York City.

Dr. Pluhar is currently a member of the Division of Adolescent and Young Adult Medicine at Boston Children’s Hospital, and is the Director of the Postdoctoral Psychology Fellowship in Leadership in Education and Health (LEAH).  She is also a member of the Division of Sports Medicine at Boston Children’s Hospital and is an Instructor in Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School.

Her career has been dedicated to helping support the mental and physical health of adolescents and their families through direct patient care, education, research, and program development.  In her clinical work at Boston Children’s Hospital, Dr. Pluhar sees patients with chronic medical illness, suicidal behavior, non-suicidal self-injurious behavior, binge eating, and problematic interactive media use and treats them with empirically validated treatments.  In the Division of Sports Medicine, she treats adolescent athletes who experience mental health issues as a result of post-concussion syndrome, ACL injuries, and post-surgical rehabilitation complications.

Dr. Pluhar’s research interests include non-suicidal self-injury, suicidal behavior, binge eating disorder, how to train primary care providers to manage challenging patient encounters, and problematic interactive media use in adolescents and their families, and mental health issues related to sports injuries.  In addition, her research includes collaborations with the Yale Child Study Center and Tufts University School of Medicine where she is an Adjunct Assistant Clinical Professor.

Dr. Pluhar currently lives in Vail with her family and maintains all her academic medical positions remotely.
